About Book:
The book gives an idea about the state of diversification in the agricultural sector of the country as a whole and West Bengal in particular. Contents of the book include a general picture of the degree of diversification analysed through diversity indices for some selected countries . An idea has been provided about the expanding global floriculture trade and the prospects of trade in floriculture for the country has also been discussed using comparative advantage theories. The main theme of the book is to study the nature and extent of floriculture in the state of West Bengal in general, highlighting the direction of floriculture among the small and marginal farmers of the state including the measure of productivity of the flower crop and the rate of adoption of modern technology for the purpose. A cost-benefit analysis for the flower producing farms in comparison to the usual cereal production has also been carried out. The price variation and the factors affecting the price is have also been taken into consideration. IRR has also been calculated with respect to few flowers. Other points under consideration are the impact of floriculture on employment, prospect of marketing the produced flowers both domestically and at the international level. The work also identifies the crucial constraints faced by these farmers in the process of floriculture and provides policy prescription
